There are, of course, many many great foods that can help rev your metabolism such as raw almonds, pecans and cashews… greek yogurt, eggs, and organic butter… spinach, kale and cauliflower… the list of “Captain Obvious” goes on and on.
But what can we use, that may not be so obvious, that can be an easy swap for the top 3 Bad Foods listed on the last page?
Well for chips, studies show that most people that crave chips are really looking for 3 things… according to Dr David Kessler,
“The food industry creates dishes to hit the three points of the compass: sugar, fat, and salt.”
This combination makes the food compelling, indulgent, and even hedonic, which ultimately gives you pleasure and makes you want to eat more.
So how do we get this with something healthy?
Easy…
1) Hummus and Veggies.
You see, hummus is power packed with protein, quick to calm your hunger and easy peasy to prepare… as in, it’s as easy as popping open a bag of chips. Hummus is also high in fiber, b vitamins, iron and folate. All super important when considering a healthy diet. Not to mention, you won’t find any of this in a bag of chips.
Add some red, green, or yellow bell peppers of celery and you have the satisfying “crunch” with every bite as well. Even better, the sugar, fat and salt content are at a minimum, therefore satisfying instead of “hedonic”.
2) Green, White and Burberry Teas
Instead of the sweet drinks, get ahold of some good ole fashion fat burning teas. You see, according to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, these 3 teas can have a significant impact on lipolysis (the breakdown of stored fat).
They have also been found to increase thermogenesis (burning calories by increasing body heat) and they contain powerful antioxidants known as catechins. These little babies help release your stored fat from your belly butt and thighs, all while keeping you energized.
My personal favorite tea is what I call the Tummy Tightening Tea. (I talk more about that in the story here.)
3) Lean Grass Fed Beef
Yep, you heard me right. 100% grass fed beef has been proven to pack more protein per 4 oz serving than most super foods… I’m talking 30-40 grams of lean muscle building protein.
It is also a super dose of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) that has been directly linked to helping people burn more belly fat.
That’s right, according to lead researcher Jean-Michel Gaullier, PhD, with the Scandinavian Clinical Research Group, one group of overweight women lost 9% body fat in one year’s time when adding CLA.
Now that’s a healthy meat most anyone would consider adding to their diet, wouldn’t you say?
These are great substitutions for Harvard’s list of foods that halt fat loss, which will definitely get you headed in the right direction with fat loss.
